Friends and family team up to remember Gary
Jones, a talented batsman who turned out for Scarborough’s first team as well as village clubs Staxton and Flixton, died from a heart-valve infection which caused bronchial pneumonia in 2009.
Since then teams brought together by Gary’s friends Allen and Walmsley, who skippers a Plaxton line-up, have competed for glory in an annual 20-overs-per side match staged at Flixton.

Skipper Allen, who was unbeaten with 14 at the finish, said: “We won with two balls to spare with Jamie Jackson hitting the winning runs. James Lacey retired on 30 for us.
“Plaxtons made 125 in 20 overs and Baz Jones, Gary’s dad, took two vital wickets for us.”
