Nock sparkles as Wykeham edge to one-wicket win in thriller at home to Scalby

Ricky Nock’s brilliant 73, and the ice-cool nerves of last-wicket pair Tom Hiley and Steve Clegg, helped Wykeham earn a dramatic one-wicket victory with just two balls remaining at home to YPLN Championship East rivals Scalby.

Dave Morris struck 53, sharing a third-wicket stand of 59 with Ben Luntley (27), but they lost wickets at regular intervals after this to post 195-8, Harry Hutchinson, Bobby Brolly and Ali Sabir taking two wickets each.

Valentine took three early wickets to reduce Wykeham to 23-3, and, despite James Bryant’s brisk 25, the hosts struggled to get going with the bat and were 86-6 at one point.

Nock worked hard to keep his side in the game with his great 73, young all-rounder Hutchinson adding 25 but Valentine returned to finish with 5-66, taking the crucial wicket of Nock as Wykeham were reduced to 177-9.

The hosts needed three runs to win from the final six balls from Gregor Fraser, and after a dot ball, veteran Clegg hit two runs from the second to bring the scores level and another dot ball added to the tension before Clegg smacked the winning four to seal a dramatic win.

Skipper Harry Walmsley was the all-round star for Flixton, smashing an excellent 103 from just 69 balls and taking 2-26 as his side bagged a 69-run win at home to Hull Zingari.

Walmsley hammered nine fours and six sixes in his explosive innings.

Having won the toss, Walmsley chose to bat first.

In reply, Faraz Dar hit a spectacular 88 in 31 balls including 11 sixes to make the home side think. Following his departure the innings soon closed on 236 all out in 43.4 overs. Connor Stephenson took 3-26 with Lewis Chipchase and Walmsley taking two wickets apiece.

Scarborough suffered a 15-run loss in a close-fought match at home to Sutton-on-Hull.

In reply, opener Ben Squires and Brad Milburn gave the hosts a boost with a magnificent stand of 153 for the third wicket, Milburn falling for 67 in 78 balls.

Squires was finally dismissed after striking an outstanding 91 from 112 balls, and despite David Snowball’s 25, the hosts ended up short on 274-9.

Seamer put in a great all-round display to win by 109 runs at home to South Holderness.

Opener Pierz Bradi Cyster gave the home side a solid start with 42 from 43 balls, and from there Gregg Chadwick led the way for Seamer with a forceful 58.

Harry Holden smashed 30 in 32 balls, Matty Morris 44 from 32 deliveries and Gaz Lawton 31no to steer Seamer to 272 all out in 47.4 overs.

Lawton then took three wickets as Holderness never really got going and were all out for 163.
