Scarborough strengthened their grip on second place in the premier division thanks to a 115-run home defeat of York 2nds.

The North Marine Road club appeared in trouble when York’s Chris Hunter, 3-74, reduced them to 41-3 but fourth-wicket pair Mark Tennant, 92 from 126 balls, and ex-Heslerton batsman Alex Carrie, 72 off only 69 balls, combined to add 137 as they went on to score 260-8.

The visitors were then always on the back foot and were all out for 145, with Anthony Hunter, 3-35 from 10 overs, and Ryan Gibson, 4-45 from 11.2 overs, bowling their side to victory.

Scarborough 2nds moved up to third sport in division three south thanks to their 200-run success at York 4ths.

Kieran Howard hit a stylish unbeaten 111 and Darren Mills fell five runs short of a well-deserved ton as the visitors racked up a massive 305-3 from their 45 overs.

Flixton batsman Anthony Stones hit a century and Jamie Nesfield took five wickets as the hosts eased their division one relegation fears with a nine-wicket win against previously unbeaten Whitkirk.

Nesfield snapped up 5-44, his second successive league five-wicket haul, and Chris Mann 3-48 as the visitors were dismissed for 208, Simon Webb leading the way for Whitkirk with 90, having hit a century in his previous game.

In-form Stones rolled over the Whitkirk bowling attack with an unbeaten 105, while Nick Zakrzewski, who has also bee in good nick with the bat recently, added a strong 76 as the home side lost just one wicket chasing down the victory target.
