Scarborough 2nds see off Hemingbrough to open account

Scarborough 2nds earned a fine four-wicket success at Hemingbrough 2nds to open their York Senior Cricket League division three south account for the season.

Jordan Welford snapped up 4-35 and Sam Carver 3-40 as the North Marine Road club dismissed the hosts for 149.

In reply, Jake Finnigan scored 43 and Kieran Howard 30 as the visitors lost six wickets in pursuit of victory.

Second-placed Sheriff Hutton Bridge kept up the pressure on the premier division leaders, maintaining their unbeaten record by inflicting a first defeat on league newcomers Scarborough.

Alex Carrie, 58, and Jack Holt, 29, helped the home side reach 189-9 before the visitors held their nerve in a close finish to win with four wickets but only a couple of overs to spare.

Flixton suffered a nine-wicket loss at home to Driffield Town 2nds in division one.

Harry Walmsley hit 29, Nick Zakrzewski 27, while Rich Malthouse and Rob Lacey struck 25 apiece as the hosts were dismissed for 157. Rob Woodcock, 4-40, and Jamie Grievson, 3-21, were the top Driffield bowlers.

Ben Dobson’s unbeaten 108, his second ton of the league season, helped Driffield coast to victory in just 28.1 overs.
