YORK SENIOR LEAGUE: Malton and Flixton keep up pressure on top two

They closed the gap on second-placed Harrogate 2nds after securing their fifth victory in six weeks at Dukes Park.

Bridlington captain Simon Leeson hit 57, his second successive half-century, but the hosts were only able to make 175. Nick Tennant’s 49 helped the captain’s cause but Thomas Bunby took 4-33 to put Malton in the driving seat.

Neil Johnson took over after tea, and his 82 allowed the visitors to wrap things up with more than six overs to spare, despite the efforts of Harry Burnhill (3-46)

Folkton and Flixton are also moving in the right direction, as they needed only 11.4 overs to overhaul the target set by struggling Osbaldwick.

The basement boys stumbled to 85 all out, with James Smith the only shining light as he top scored with 38.

Flixton’s Jamie Nesfield took 4-32 and then watched Anthony Stones race to 43 to ensure the early finish.

Leaders Whitkirk got things done and dusted even more quickly as they battered Beverley 2nds.

Simon Webb left the home side feeling blue after taking six wickets for 24 as the Beavers only just got to three figures.

Harry Gamble made 37 in a poor batting effort by Town and Matthew Webb took full advantage, the Whitkirk opener reaching 73 not out as the game was all over in the 11th over of the second innings, with Beverley unable to make a single breakthrough.

Sewerby were left frustrated by Selby’s final pair, who hung on to deny them victory on the clifftop.

The hosts made 200-8, based around an impressive fourth-wicket stand of 80 by Steve Janney (87) and Harry Gunning (72).

Ben Traves’ five-wicket haul almost clinched the maximum points for Sewerby, as the away side collapsed from 91-3 to 132-9, but they couldn’t take the crucial final wicket.

Pocklington battled hard to earn a draw at home to second-placed Harrogate, thanks to the determination of John Chaplin.

After a half-century last week, he added another unbeaten 59 to thwart the visiting attack, as Pock ended on 194-7.

That was after Harrogate batsmen Ashley Griffin (89 not out) and Ben Kempley (57) had enjoyed themselves at the crease as they helped their side to the biggest score of the day in the division, 268-9.

In the Premier Division, Driffield Town 2nds’ batsmen Tom Norman and Rich Grice relished the track at Hull Zingari. Norman made 63 and Grice 69 as Driff cruised to an eight-wicket victory.

Zingari had posted 165-7, based around Guy Martinson’s 63.

After being dismissed for a meagre 37 last week, Beverley Town 1sts bounced back in style at Bolton Percy, with a number of their batsmen sharing the runs around in a three-wicket win.

Peter Houseman made 38 for the home side, which proved to be the highest score of the game, but Bradley Graham took five wickets and Matthew Mudd three to keep the target within reach.

And so it proved as five Beverley batsmen, Will Parker, Michael Cook, Andy Burton, Tommy Hudson and Mudd all weighed in with scores of around 30 each to get Town over the line.

After ripping through Beverley’s line-up last week, Goole found Pickering’s batsmen a tougher proposition.

The away side earned the majority of the points as Kieran Bowes made 33 in a score of 163-8, as David England claimed 4-37.

Ryan Boyes took 3-36 to give Pickering hope of dismissing Goole but the final pair clung on to keep Pickering in sixth spot.

Hemingbrough captain Tom Collins had a day to remember as his side beat Scarborough 2nds, knocking them off the top of Ebor Division Two.

Collins took 4-33 as Scarborough were bowled out for 148 in the 41st over, Darren Mills top scoring with 40.

After starring with the ball, Collins then excelled with the bat, hitting an unbeaten 93 to seal a five-wicket win.

For Scarborough, David Snowball took 2-13 and Neil Elvidge 3-14 but had no answer to Collin’s onslaught.
