AFC Eastfield defeat Bagby and Balk to retain Scarborough and District FA Junior Cup

AFC Eastfield retained the Scarborough and District FA Junior Cup on Thursday night as they defeated a well-disciplined Bagby and Balk team in the final at Pickering Town's Recreation Club.

Damien Robinson opened the scoreline after 20 minutes following a goalmouth scramble, and Terry Day extended the lead after 40 minutes, only for Beckett League Division 2 side Bagby to pull a goal back with the last action of the first half.

Both sides battled for midfield dominance in the second half as they pressed forward in an evenly balanced competitive encounter.

Finally, Bagby equalised, and when penalties looked likely, Darren Clough, who had just entered the fray as a substitute, slotted the ball past the keeper to put Eastfield into the lead.

Despite a frantic onslaught during the dying minutes Eastfield held on to win the trophy 3-2.

AFC Eastfield are the first team to retain the Scarborough Junior Cup since Ganton in 1952/3.

Ken Keld, who played for Ganton all those years ago, was joined by Stephen Crosby, Eastfield's Secretary, as they watched the fixture on Thursday evening.

The Eastfield Man of the Match was Conor Fiddy.
