Battling Bridlington Town edged out on the road at champions Redcar Athletic

Bridlington Town put in a performance defined by grit and togetherness at Green Lane, but they were ultimately left to rue missed opportunities as they fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat against a formidable Redcar Athletic.

In a game of high intensity and fine margins, the Seasiders showed they could go toe-to-toe with the league’s best, even if the final result didn't reflect their tireless work rate.

The match ignited in the 18th minute when local lad Joe Pratley produced a moment he will never forget.

After a Denny Oliver free-kick was recycled, Pratley picked up the ball and unleashed a stunning 25-yard bullet to claim his first senior goal for the club.

However, the celebrations had barely subsided before Redcar struck back.

Just two minutes later, a lightning-fast counter-attack allowed Louis Johnson to square the ball for Adam Boyes, who levelled the scores.

The momentum shifted just before the break in a sequence that ultimately decided the match.

Bridlington nearly regained the lead when Ben Farrar burst through one-on-one, only to see the Redcar keeper pull off a goal-saving stop with his toe.

Minutes later, the drama moved to the other end as the referee awarded Redcar a penalty for a handball by Tom Allan.

Johnson stepped up and clinically converted, sending the hosts into the locker room with a slim lead.

The second half was a battle of endurance.

Redcar stepped up their quality, forcing 18-year-old goalkeeper Alex Baird into several smart saves to keep Bridlington in the hunt.

Despite heavy pressure, the Seasiders refused to fold, utilising their full bench to inject fresh energy into a late comeback bid.

The golden opportunity arrived in the 88th minute when Farrar’s relentless pressing forced a turnover, but the final pass into the box just failed to find its target.

While the equaliser never came, Bridlington left the pitch with their heads held high, having proven that their commitment and spirit remain unbroken as they look ahead to the next challenge.
