Mead's side dominated possession throughout the entirety of the first half, but the Gunners failed to carve out any clear-cut chances, and following a defensive error, England striker Ellen White fired the visitors into the lead with a smart finish from close range.

Arsenal stepped things up after the break and Jill Roord teed up Caitlin Foord to level things up at 1-1.

But City sealed the spoils with just over 10 minutes left, Lauren Hemp heading past Arsenal keeper Manuela Zinsberger.

Mead's Arsenal face another huge test when they take on WSL title challengers Chelsea on Wednesday.
