BORO JUNIORS: Under-14s seen off by Sproatley while Sumpton's young stars take step closer to title

Aaron Dickson and Charlie Wright netted for hosts Boro as they lost to the league leaders.

Scarborough Athletic Under-12s moved a step closer to securing promotion in the Hull & District Youth League with a 3-1 win over second-placed South Cave Bears at the Flamingo Land Stadium.

They now just need a point in next Sunday’s game against Costello Stingrays to ensure they finish in one of the top two spots.

It wasn’t going all Scarborough’s way in this tie though, as South Cave gave the hosts 100% record a scare during the first half.

Kyle Cass had to be at his very best to deny the visitors on numerous occasions, as Scarborough failed to find their rhythm during the opening stages.

The sides went in goalless at half-time but after the break, Harvey Bayes was fouled on the edge of the box before whipping home the resulting free-kick to take an important advantage for the league leaders.

The goal settled Scarborough down, and soon after the first, Bailey Bennett added a second.

A tidy passing move resulted in Bennett finding himself with only the keeper to beat and he struck it low past the visiting gloveman.

Bayes then latched on to a defence-splitting pass from Toby Jones to bend in to the far corner for 3-0 and the three points seemed to be in the bag.

However, South Cave rallied again, and got back in the game with a goal of their own, before Cass had to make a stunning double-save at point-blank range to stop the visitors from making it 3-2.

From there Athletic saw out the game to maintain their 100% record.

Scarborough Athletic Under-16s came out on top in a seven-goal thriller away at Hull United.

Boro started brightly and took the lead on 15 minutes when Kane Randerson-Wray was fouled in the box.

Randerson-Wray took the resulting penalty which was well saved by the home keeper, but the rebound fell to the Boro player, who smashed in from close-range.

United equalised just before the interval with a bullet header from a corner.

The home team started the second half as they finished the first, taking the lead at 2-1 after another corner resulted in a game of pinball in the Boro six-yard-box and a close-range finish.

Boro responded and a Tom Wright free-kick bounced off the top of the crossbar before being cleared to safety.

At the other end Boro keeper Cameron Anderson palmed a piledriver around the post to safety.

Midway through the half the game turned on its head with Boro scoring three goals in six minutes.

Firstly Dan Simpson, who was becoming a thorn in the side of the home team, cut in from the right and drilled a low shot into the bottom corner for the equaliser 2-2.

Two minutes later Simpson became provider setting up Tom Wright, who finished accurately to give Boro the lead at 3-2.

Boro weren’t done yet and with a blistering counter-attack which ended up with Simpson finding Wright again and his first-time curler into the top corner left the keeper with no chance for 4-2.

United responded with a goal of their own before time ran out to leave a final score in this thrilling encounter 4-3 to Boro.

Scarborough Athletic Under-14 AFC faced Westella and Willerby at the Flamingo Land Stadium.

The game started evenly but it was Scarborough who broke the deadlock with a shot by Owen Lambert that went into the far corner.

After Scarborough scored it was all one-way traffic for the away side and they equalised within five minutes, making it 1-1 going into half-time.

After the break Scarborough were a completely different team and within the 10 minutes a Tom Benson shot from the edge of the box found its way into the near post, making it 2-1.

Almost instantly after Nathan Williams made a break down the middle and smashed the ball into the top right corner from outside of the box.

Scarborough were on the front foot at this point and they were awarded a free-kick on the left of the penalty area, the resulting set-piece was taken by Benson and his cross managed to sneak its way into the far corner without anybody touching it.

Williams made the score 5-1 after jinking his way into the box, going around three defenders before then audaciously back-heeling the ball into the bottom left corner, rounding off the scoring in scintillating fashion.

Scarborough Athletic Under-15s picked up their second league victory of the season in a game at West Hull Warriors.

A tight first half had the teams at 0-0 but a much improved second half display got Boro a 3-0 victory.

Aidan Crawford, Marcus O’Flanagan and Liam Coulson scored the goal.

Ted Edwards picked up man of the match with a dominant performance at centre-back.

Scarborough Athletic’s Under-17s battled hard but were well beaten 5-0 by a strong Westella and Willerby outfit.
