Boro's disappointment at Corner exit

Boro's top-scorer stepped down a level to join the NCEL Premier title contenders on Friday evening, much to Boro's frustration.

According to Boro chairman Dave Holland, Corner had assured him that he would be staying at Queensgate rather than making the switch down the A64.

Holland was also riled by the fact that Tadcaster contravened the FA's seven-day ruling, by speaking to Corner 24 hours too early.

He said: "I'm very disappointed with both Tadcaster and Tom.

"I spoke to Tom at length on Friday evening. He told our manager Steve Kittrick and myself one thing and then went off to do another.

"I was impressed with his maturity when he told us a few days ago that he would be staying to see the season out and then take things from there. Clearly that wasn't the case.

"Ordinarily I would wish him well, but we are all disappointed that he has let down a club that stuck by him when things weren't going his way."

Boro have been in touch with the authorities about the move and they are awaiting further clarification.

Holland added: "We have been in touch with the Evo-Stik League, the NCEL and the FA about this because we are looking for advice on the situation.

"According to our books, Tadcaster have spoken to Tom before the expiry of the seven days.

"We will be waiting to find out whether the seven-day ruling is just empty rhetoric from the FA. If that is the case then why should clubs follow it?

"The Evo-Stik League registration expired on March 24, the NCEL's registration deadline is a week later.

"This whole thing means that we have lost a player and we have no way of replacing him."
