Boss Foot demands a reaction

Scarborough Athletic joint-boss Paul Foot will be demanding a reaction from his players when they do battle with derby rivals Whitby Town in the Doodson Sports Trophy on Tuesday night at Queensgate.

Boro produced a last-gasp comeback to seal a 2-1 win against Evo-Stik North basement boys New Mills on Saturday, but Foot and fellow joint-manager Bryan Hughes were both less than happy with the performance.

“We need a reaction from the players after Saturday because that performance just wasn’t good enough,” said Foot.

“You can’t pin everything on the boys though, Bryan and myself are quite good at looking at ourselves to see if we made any wrong decisions as well. We are all in this together.

“We’ll be going out to win the Whitby game because we’re in a run of good results at the moment and we want to keep it going.

“I think if we had still been in the FA competitions, or right up there in the table then we’d have a different outlook, but as things are we’ll be putting out a very strong side.”

Foot has been given something of a headache ahead of the game, as Saturday’s subs Ryan Blott, Alex Peterson and Alex Metcalfe all made their mark when coming off the bench.

He added: “We have kept the same team in recent weeks apart from the odd change, but there are a few players that are knocking on the door.

“The three subs on Saturday certainly gave us a boost, despite some people saying that they were made in panic.

“I think those substitutions said that we are not afraid of taking the big hitters or anyone off the pitch. If the lads areen’t cutting it then they will come off.”
