Bridlington Town net magnificent 7-0 home win against Blyth Town

Bridlington Town reached seventh heaven at Queensgate on Saturday with a ruthless 7-0 demolition of Blyth Town, a performance as clinical as it was comprehensive.

In a one-sided affair from the first whistle, the Seasiders combined attacking flair with a disciplined clean sheet to delight the 412 fans in attendance.

The tone was set in the 14th minute when Ben Farrar reacted quickest to a dangerous low ball into the box, turning it home from close range to open the floodgates.

The momentum swung irrevocably in Bridlington’s favour shortly after when a goal-bound effort was blocked by a hand on the line. The referee had no hesitation, brandishing a straight red card to leave Blyth with 10 men before Ahmed Salam stepped up to calmly slot home the resulting penalty.

With a numerical advantage, the Seasiders became relentless. Eddie Kettlewell made it three, pouncing on a cleared corner to smash the ball home, before Farrar secured his brace just before the interval.

While the linesman initially flagged for offside, the referee overruled the decision to award the goal, sending the hosts into the dug-out with a commanding 4-0 lead.

The second half offered no respite for the visitors.

Early in the period, the persistent Farrar was hauled down in the area, handing Salam the opportunity to net his second penalty of the afternoon and he made no mistake, firing home to make it five and truly kill off any lingering Blyth resistance.

As the game wound down, Brid’s bench provided fresh energy, but it was the late clinical finishing that turned a rout into a historic scoreline.

In the 88th minute, Stan Hewitt latched onto a searching ball over the top and showed immense composure to dink the ball over the onrushing keeper.

The afternoon’s crowning moment arrived in the 90th minute through Denny Oliver.

Following a partially cleared corner, Oliver picked up the ball from distance and unleashed a sensational, low-rifled strike that arrowed into the bottom corner.

It was the perfect exclamation point on a dominant display that saw goalkeeper Alex Baird finish the match largely untested, as Brid Town marched away with three points and a statement victory.
