Bridlington Town slump to 4-0 home loss against Heaton Stannington

Bridlington Town were defeated 4-0 by Heaton Stannington at the Mounting Systems Stadium despite periods of attacking intent and a willingness to take the game to the visitors.

Heaton Stannington made the perfect start, opening the scoring inside five minutes when Andrew Burn fired home from the edge of the area following a smart cut-back.

The Seasiders responded well to the early setback. Ben Farrar went close with an effort that drifted just wide, while Stan Hewitt caused problems down the flank, beating his man and linking up with Casey Stewart before the move was halted by the visiting goalkeeper.

Michael Coulson was involved in several attacking moments for Bridlington, including a speculative effort from 35 yards that was headed away by a scrambling defence. Further pressure followed as Farrar broke through the back line and crossed for Jake Day, who laid the ball back to Coulson, only for his low effort to be gathered.

The visitors doubled their advantage three minutes before half-time when Dale Pearson found the net, sending Heaton Stannington into the break with a 2-0 lead.

At half-time, interim manager Michael Coulson made a change, bringing himself off and introducing Joe Batty in an attempt to add fresh impetus.

Bridlington’s hopes of building momentum were dented early in the second half when Batty was forced off through injury around 10 minutes after the restart, with Brodie Sedman introduced in his place.

Despite continued effort from the Seasiders, Heaton added a further goal through Joe Shepherd 28 minutes into the second half.

With 14 minutes remaining, Brid made further changes as Stan Hewitt and Jake Day made way for Cam Blackburn and British Virgin Islands international Johari Lacey.

The Seasiders continued to work until the final whistle, but were unable to find a breakthrough as the visitors scored a fourth through sub Samuel Johnson in the dying seconds to seal a comprehensive 4-0 victory.
