Cooper and Logan star in Newlands and Pier wins

Scarborough Saturday League Division One leaders Newlands won 4-2 at Sleights and West Pier eased past visitors Seamer Sports 6-1 to boost their respective title bids.

Jamie Gallagher put Newlands ahead at Sleights and a Stew Bates penalty doubled the visitors' lead, new signing Liam Cooper marking his debut with the third before half-time.

Sam Leadley pulled a goal back for the villagers after the interval, but Cooper's second sealed the win, although debutant Lewis Peel struck a second for Sleights and Ben Watson had a goal ruled out for the hosts.

Bates was man of the match for the victors, with Cooper also making a good impression on his first start for Newlands.

Sam Pike was named as the man of the match for Sleights.

Tommy Barker opened the scoring for Pier at home to Seamer, a brilliant 25-yard shot from Billy Logan making it 2-0 to the high-flyers.

Gaz Lawton pulled a goal back for Seamer, but Kris Tate struck on the stroke of half-time to restore Pier's two-goal lead.

Logan completed his hat-trick with the next two goals for Pier and Martin Cooper slotted in the sixth from the penalty spot after Will Jenkinson had been brought down in the area.

Shaun Dodson was named as the Pier man of the match for a commanding display at centre-back for the hosts.
