DARREN FOREMAN: Warne comments fire up England

Australian legend Shane Warne has stoked the pre-Ashes fire after criticising England skipper Alastair Cook.

Thursday, 7th November 2013, 12:30 pm

Warne has described Cook’s captaincy as negative and said Michael Clarke is the best skipper in the world.

It’s just pre-Ashes sledging without a shadow of a doubt, he’s tried to get a reaction from the England team and Cook was sat on 154 not out on Wednesday morning after day one of their first tour match, so that shows you the tough mental resolve the England skipper has.

I think the series will be close though and we will retain the urn after a 2-2 draw.

It was also good to see Hampshire’s Michael Carberry get the nod at the top of the order.

I’ve been backing him for a while now and for him to be unbeaten on 153 with skipper Cook will do his chances no harm at all.

Malton’s Simon Dyson found himself in hot water after getting disqualified from the Shanghai Masters after breaching rule 16 1a - touching the line of your own putt.

He’s come out and said it was an honest mistake and that should be the end of the matter as far as that is concerned now.

It will depend now how it affects his mindset.

He’s already pulled out of the Turkish Open this week, so time will tell.

There was a funny situation with Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris at Goodison Park against Everton on Sunday.

For him to be knocked unconscious by Romelu Lukaku and to then be allowed to carry on by both the club’s medical staff and the referee was staggering.

I think this really needs to be looked at by The Football Assocation.

The match official should be able to deem him unfit to return to the field of play.

I see former Scarborough Athletic and Pickering Town midfielder Tommy Adams has decided to hang up his boots this week.

Tommy is a great lad and a guy I know Mark Patterson was looking at closely when Scarborough FC were in their dying embers.

Tommy trained with us but due to the transfer embargo, we weren’t allowed to sign him.

He’s served both Boro and Pickering well over the last few years and I wish him well.

Nick Matthews for me. He won the World Squash Championship for the third time in four years. A great effort.

Asked which Premier League strike duo he preferred – Manchester United’s Van Persie and Rooney combo, or Liverpool’s Suarez and Sturridge partnership, dubbed the ‘SAS’, Ibrahimovic allegedly replied:

“Who is Sturridge?”

While the quotes are circling Twitter, it’s not confirmed whether Ibrahimovich actually said it or not.
