The family which runs the Tiger Inn at Easington has stepped in to buy the club on Seaton Crescent to keep it in the seaside village.
The social club and sports fields were due to go under the hammer in a sale held by property auctioneers Pugh this Wednesday (April 28) as reported by the Gazette last week.Gary Sivills, representing the sports association, told the Gazette this week: "They [the owners] have agreed to sell to us and want to see it stay in the local community.
"That's what we wanted.
"They even agreed to sponsor the village cricket and football teams going forward, as a token gesture."
He said the family at the Tiger Inn will look at ways they can later sell the club back to the local community, having paid the cash as a bridging gap.
The sports association had the backing of Scarborough Borough Council and Sport England, as well as MP Robert Goodwill in its efforts to stop the site going to auction.
Mr Sivills added there were covenants on the land which could put developers off building on the site.
