Finishing touches for new sports facility

Wilmott Dixon will hand the keys over to the centre’s management company Everyone Active at the end of this week and they have less than a month to fine tune the facility.Bull, who has supported Boro in both guises for over 50 years, has waited for this moment for a decade since Scarborough FC folded and the McCain Stadium closed down.He said: “By the end of this week we’ll be there, it is going to be great.“I get a bit emotional every time I think about July 15 and the first friendly against Sheffield United, we have waited 10 years for this.“It is massive for me, it is massive for the club and I think it will be massive for the town.“The whole complex is something to behold, with the football facilities, the swimming pool and the fitness area.“As a town we are on the up at the moment, there is so much investment coming in and that has to be good for the people of Scarborough.“I want people to embrace the football club, but I also want people to embrace this facility as a whole as well.”As well as being the base for Boro, there is a 25-metre Olympic Legacy swimming pool, a huge gym area and a number of other facilities.Everyone Active’s area fitness manager Martin Russell added: “We get the keys at the end of this week and after that we have the chance to put our Everyone Active take on it.“It is nice to have the wet, the dry and Scarborough Athletic in the same facility, it creates the perfect hub for the people of the town to be proud of.“I can remember watching Scarborough playing at the original McCain Stadium a number of years ago and we are delighted to have them back from Bridlington at this facility.“When you get 2,000 spectators at the ground on a busy matchday there will be an electric atmosphere, especially when there are derby games or cup ties as well.”
