Pikes boss Roberts, speaking on the club website, admitted he was delighted to sign Johnson, 21.

He said: "Jack was one of my main targets when arriving at the club. To say I am excited to get him with us is an understatement.

"For a young lad he has so much experience at this level and above. He can play a number of positions which is a real plus for me and the team. He will slot straight in to the squad and make us so much stronger as a group.

"For us to get him says how much we are progressing as a club. Jack is not only a very good footballer, but he is an even better lad and I can't wait to work with him again this coming season."

Johnson joined Boro after spells with Doncaster Rovers and Halifax Town, his three-year spell at the Flamingo Land Stadium club ending three months ago.
