He was obviously disappointed with the loss, but he was also keen to move on and look forward.

“It wasn’t the prettiest game. I thought we started brightly and had good spells in the first half, but we didn’t make things count,” Funk said.

“We’ve instructed our lads to get the ball up front as quickly as possible, which won’t have been pretty to watch from the stands, it wasn’t pretty to watch from where we were standing.

“A lot of our lads gave their all, but it just wasn’t good enough.

“We were caught for all three of our goals, which was obviously very disappointing. In defence if you make mistakes you get punished.

“The thinking cap has to go on, we need to shuffle a few things around.

“Everyone is still upbeat because of our great start, but this has been a wake-up call.

“It is important that we don’t get too disheartened about it.

“You win games and lose games, that is football.”

Funk refused to shake the hand of Ossett manager and former Boro coach John Reed either before or after last night’s game.

He didn’t go into details, though he underlined that it was for personal reasons.

He added: “There were no handshakes, nobody can make me do that because it is something personal.

“Again we’ll move on from that and I’ll get on with my job.”
