Goldsborough edged out by Division 1 leaders Amotherby, Whitby Fishermen’s Academy win at Goal Sports

Amotherby & Swinton drew 2-2 with Boro, before finally winning the tie 5-3 in a penalty shoot-out, writes Dan Lewis.

Amotherby went behind twice from their own mistakes to goals from Boro’s Jack Bowden and George Sault, and left it late to equalise through Matthew Bean and Oliver Towse to take the match to penalties where they would go on to win.

The home side converted all five and goalkeeper Nick Lock saving one to make sure Division One pacesetters Amotherby went through to the next round.

Josh Towse was named as the man of the match for the hosts.

Whitby Fishermen’s Society Academy also had to battle hard for their 3-2 win at Division Two rivals Goal Sports.

The hosts struck first, but Kieran Wade levelled the scoring to make it 1-1 at the interval.

Wade doubled his tally to put Fishermen’s in the lead on the hour.

Goal Sports levelled the game once again but Wade completed his hat-trick in stupendous fashion, scoring from outside the box in the 90th minute to progress to the next round.

Fishburn Park Academy lost out by a 4-0 scoreline in their clash at

Heslerton.

Morgan Kendrew opened the scoring on three minutes, found by Jamie Atkinson he spotted the keeper off his line and finished with a sublime right-footed lob into the net.

Fishburn came close to equalising minutes later.

First, confusion by the home keeper Simon Clark saw full-back Josh Wade rescue the ball from crossing the line, before 17-year-old centre-back Tommy Palmer made an off the line clearance following a Park corner.

On 17 minutes Atkinson once again found Kendrew down the left, this time the striker took the ball into the box before drawing the keeper and squeezing the ball between him and the post with a cute finish.

The second half saw 16-year-old Warren Stanton, on his full senior debut fire wide after a great run from midfield where he rode several challenges.

Constant pressure from the hosts resulted in a third as hesitancy in the Fishburn box from a Sam Besau cross saw the ball bundled over by a visiting defender, aware of the lurking Kendrew on his shoulder and ready to pounce.

Inside the last 10 minutes there was still time for the hard-working Jamie Atkinson to have the final say.

Winning a free-kick deep on the right he took the resultant setpiece, firing a fine left-footed effort past the keeper and high into the roof of the net.Many great individual performances saw the Blues’ Man of the Match award shared between defender Tommy Palmer and Atkinson.

Wombleton romped to an 8-2 win at Ayton, David Thompson hitting four goals.

Luke Quantock (2), Ryan Rivis and Jake Denison completed the scoring for Wombleton, whose man of the match was Bobby Clapham.

Nicko Dunn and Eric Hall scored for Ayton.

Union Rovers also progresses 6-5 on penalties after drawing 2-2 at home to Sinnington.

The Sinners went 1-0 up through Charlie Hancock in the first half.

Sinnington should’ve put the game to bed in the second half, before Union were awarded a penalty to make it 1-1.

Aidan Taylor gained back Sinnington’s lead only for the ref to award another penalty in the last minute for Union to draw the game 2-2, Matty Jackson scoring both penalties.

Union went on to win 6-5 on penalties.

Cam Frank was Sinnington’s man of the match.
