Hosts Fishburn Park beat Great Ayton in five-goal thriller

Fishburn Park started their North Riding Football League season with a 3-2 home win against Great Ayton United.

Andrew Menzies headed the home side in front from a first-half corner, and this lead was doubled before the break when Nathan Storr ran onto a long clearance to head the ball over the stranded keeper from 15 yards. The visitors halved the deficit just before the interval.

Adam Warrilow restored the two-goal lead after the break, slotting home from close-range after the Ayton keeper failed to hold onto a low free-kick, a stunning strike into the top-corner from the visitors making the final score 3-2. Callum Halley’s red card was the only negative moment for Park.

On Tuesday Staithes won 2-1 at Guisborough Reserves, with Sam Webster and Jacob Midgley scoring.
