Hosts Scarborough Ladies FC Under-18s edged out by newcomers Cottingham Rangers in seven-goal thriller
A new-look Scarborough Ladies Under-18s side started their season with a 4-3 home loss against City of York Girls Football League newcomers Cottingham Rangers.
The hosts - who also now include the club’s Under-16s players after their age-group team folded during the summer - started the strongest at Scarborough Sports Village, winning four corners in the first 12 minutes.

They were rewarded in the 14th minute when Lucy Webster found herself on a break from the middle of the pitch and struck the ball past a diving Cottingham keeper.
Further good possession from Scarborough was unrewarded and they were punished in the 33rd minute when Cottingham exploited some space on the home team’s right and the game was level at half-time.

Boro took less than 30 seconds after the restart to bounce back when some lovely passing between Amelia Breckon and Ava Hutchings allowed Breckon the opportunity to fight her way into the Cottingham area and precisely beat the outrushing goalkeeper.
Cottingham showed brilliant courage and equalised after 51 minutes, a wonderful strike in the 53rd minute saw them go ahead and Boro’s woes were deepened after 60 minutes, as they found themselves two goals behind.
Boro found determination and played the better football for the remainder of the game, breaching the opposition defence but failing to finish off the chances.
In the 79th minute, Breckon struck again with a brilliant right-footed curling shot from the edge of the area, narrowing the score to 4-3, but the away side hung on to secure all three points.
The Under-18s would like to thank ISM Engineering for being their new kit sponsor.

Scarborough Ladies Lionesses Under-14s won 1-0 at home to Brooklyn.
It was a very evenly matched game, the defence of Hirst, Dunn and Horne keeping Brooklyn at bay.
The hosts went in front in the 17th minute with a cutting through-ball by Amiele Milton to girl of the match Scarlett Cole, showing great belief and skill throughout, this was a brilliant match for Cole to show off skill and technique and took her goal brilliantly.
Special mention to Poppy Timmins and both Ladies goalkeepers Issy Templeman and Emily Vasey, who were all outstanding.
