JOHN DEACEY - I was disgusted with Boro's League Cup display

I was disgusted by the way the players performed in the 5-1 League Cup loss at home to Dunston on Tuesday night.

The players did not apply themselves at all and I feel they let me down and they let the club down - but most of all they let the fans down.

I got a lot of stick from the fans on the night and I am happy to take the criticism if it is my fault such as making the wrong substitutions, but I feel that the players’ lack of application was to blame in this game.

The club’s player of the season for the last two seasons, goalkeeper Tommy Taylor, made mistakes for a couple of the goals so he needs to look at his performance.

I usually like to think that I can take some positives out of most performances but there was only really negatives on Tuesday evening.

I made five or six changes for this game from the Lancaster City match on Saturday, where we played superbly against the second-placed side in the league but lost out 1-0.

We are in the middle of a very poor patch at the moment and will have to manage without Chris Dawson, who has played so well this season, on Saturday at Witton Albion as he is suspended due to his sending-off for two yellow cards against Lancaster last weekend.

We played so well on Saturday, and Lancaster admitted we were the better side but once again we just did not take our chances in front of goal.

Witton are no mugs so it will be another tough game this Saturday.

Striker James Walshaw picked up an injury in the League Cup loss so we will be checking on him to see if he will be fit in time for Saturday.
