Junior Football: Birley hits six on debut to fire Raiders to victory

Charlie Birley scored a superb six goals on his debut for Scholes Park Raiders under-16s in their 12-0 thrashing of Holt FC.

In terrible conditions at Oliver’s Mount it was Raiders under-16s who stormed out of the traps, scoring five in the first 20 minutes.

Within five minutes Ryan Furnell played through Birley, who slotted home to open his account.

Raiders were straight at Holt again from the kick-off, and again Oliver Dixon scored after some fine football.

Birley got his second inside 10 minutes, which was followed by Dixon also getting his second shortly after to make it 4-0.

Not content with their early lead, Raiders pressed forward creating numerous chances only for Holt’s defenders and goalkeeper to hold firm.

But under so much pressure it wasn’t long before Birley completed his hat-trick and then got his fourth moments later to make it 6-0.

Furnell then whipped in a neat corner and Liam Jones rose to head home and make it 7-0 and just before half-time Dixon wrapped up his hat-trick with the goal of the game after rifling the ball into the top corner.

In the second half Holt came out battling and managed to stop the onslaught and created some good chances of their own.

Raiders finally found some rhythm again and it was Kieran Wade who weaved through three defenders and rounded the keeper to get on the scoresheet.

Birley added two more before Polish star Milosz Bulinski popped up to head home his first goal for the club in four years.

The star men for Raiders were the midfield trio of Tom Johnson, Furnell and Cameron Hunter.

Heslerton under-12s lost 1-0 against Newlands Park.

The villagers created the early chances with Tom Sellars-Horsley and Alex Troop testing an impressive Park keeper.

Against the run of play, Park broke away and took the lead.

After the break Heslerton laid siege to the Raiders’ goal.

With time running out, Heslerton attacker David Hebron smashed in a rebound only to have the goal harshly ruled out to hand the points to Newlands.

Leaders Cayton under-12s produced a magnificent team performance against plucky Kirkbymoorside.

Some superb passing moves opened up the Kirkby defence numerous times before Mattie Roberts opened the scoring.

Louie Smith was winning every ball in the centre of defence for the home side, while Finley Wilson was creating chances with some fine passing.

A long-range Tom Hutchinson strike made it 2-0 at the break before a a superb passing move involving Harry Groombridge, Mike Cairns and the lively Marshall Nock made it 3-0.

Flynn Moss then created a chance for Cairns to coolly tap home.

Nock and Cairns then completed their hat-tricks before Wilson made it 9-0 in the dying minutes.

Smith picked up man of the match award after a dominant performance at the heart of the home defence.

Heslerton under-11s hosted West Pier in a game of two halves, displaying remarkable teamwork throughout.

The hosts took the lead with an own goal, but soon afterwards, conceded a handful of goals as the visitors came back with a vengeance.

The second half saw Heslerton return with fire in their bellies, producing what seemed to be a goal every minute from scorers Joe Pearce (2), Hayden Williamson (2) and Dylan Fawcett, all lifting the home team’s spirits.

Man of the match went to defender Sergio Butterfield for his strong challenges and notable improvement

Heslerton under-eights Pirates hosted Scalby Stags.

A goal from Kenzie Palliser and an unstoppable free-kick from man of the match Jack Smith gave them a narrow victory in game one.

Goals from Scalby’s Milan Kapczynski, Tom Crawshaw and Louis Gledhill-Battye handed Scalby the win in game two, despite two goals from Malachey Kendrew either side of a Palliser strike.

Heslerton under-sevens hosted Hunmanby.

A fine performance by the whole team in the first game saw Jack McDougall and Dylan Oxendale get on the scoresheet with the game ending in an entertaining 2-2 draw.

The man of the match award went to Eli Howden.

The second match was also tightly contested, but this time Hunmanby took victory.

Man of the match in this game was John Mathers.
