Kerr earns first win as Bridlington Town knock out Dunnington

Scott Kerr claimed his first win as Seasiders head coach as they progressed through to the East Riding Senior Cup Semi Final with an 9-0 romp over Dunnington.

It was a team effort with goals from Joe Batty, Casey Stewart, Destiny Nnunenua, Johari Lacey, a brace from Ahmed Salam and a hat-trick by Jake Day helped saw them progress through to the next stage of the competition.

The Seasiders, in league action, have only claimed one point in their last three games, losing 3-1 to Bishop Auckland, losing 3-2 against Matlock, but salvaging a point away to Bradford (Park Avenue) thanks to a Hamza Hamdosh late equaliser.

The first real chance of the game came to the visitors Dunnington, Angus Richardson with a cross into the box, Alex Markham was on hand to defend heading the ball out for a corner, moments later Bridlington broke the deadlock, Markham fired a through-ball to Hamdosh, then with a flick to Liam Mitchell, a clinical pass to Salam, giving the Seasiders the early advantage.

Hamdosh came close to doubling the lead, he attempted a shot from distance, although the keeper Jacob Little tipped over the bar earning the hosts a corner.

The Seasiders soon doubled their advantage, Tom Allan played a brilliant long ball to Salam, turning around Sam Rolfe, before squaring to Nnunenua.

Dunnington almost reduced the deficit from a free-kick, but Chris Bilton’s effort ricocheted off the crossbar.

Batty was next on the scoresheet for the Seasiders, Riley Cooper’s through-ball sending him through, and he calmly slotted into the bottom corner.

Salam sealed his brace as Town added a fourth, Allan with the ball forward, Salam’s first touch went easily over the keeper, and into the net.

Dunnington were unlucky to not go further behind as the second half began, Salam’s curling pass finding Batty, but his shot flew over the bar.

Stewart did a fifth goal for the Seasiders, making a run down the left, before placing the shot beyond the keeper. Moments later it was 6-0 as Brid were queuing up to score and one-way traffic had resumed, Michael Coulson made a neat pass to Day, his first attempt ricocheted off the keeper but the rebound was fired in the roof of the net.

Stewart made a pass to Davidson, with a shot from distance, however his effort whiskered past the near post, but minutes later Dunnington came close almost to a consolation as a Bilton free-kick sailed over.

With the weather beginning to deteriorate, Johari Lacey assisted in the build-up and Day buried his shot into the bottom corner, moments later Lacey added his name on the scoresheet, heading in a Batty cross.

Day completed his hat-trick with a rebound shot after Coulson’s effort was parried away by the Dunnington stopper Little.

Kerr said: “I’m happy to be through to the next round.

"Fair play to Dunnington, they turned up on a tough evening, but they kept going, we wish them all the best in their league.

"I can’t say that I’m not happy with a 9-0 win, there were a lot of positives, but also a few negatives though that we need to iron out.

"I thought Destiny played well on his debut.”
