Kittrick: Boro is biggest test of my managerial career

Kittrick, who took over from Bryan Hughes and Paul Foot, could not stop a 3-0 home defeat to Bamber Bridge in his first game on Saturday.

The former Guiseley and Telford gaffer admits he’s been shocked by what he’s seen since taking the reins.

He said: “This is definitely the biggest test of my managerial career so far, without a doubt.

“I came here with my eyes wide open knowing the level of football I was coming to wasn’t Conference or Conference North, but I can already see that a lot of things needs to change throughout the club.

“We need to put a more professional structure in place and I have already spoken to the chairman to that effect.

“Since I’ve come in I’ve been very surprised at a lot of things.

“I didn’t think the situation was as bad as it is, but that’s the way it is and we need to work hard to turn it around.”

If Boro lose at Kendal on Saturday they’ll register a record-breaking ninth consecutive league defeat, the worst in the history of the town’s senior football club.

The record and Boro’s terrible run of form over the past few months is something that Kittrick doesn’t want to be linked to.

“I’m not being associated with any records,” blasted Kittrick.

“I came to the club just over a week ago and we’ve lost one game.

“I don’t want any pressure of records being put on the shoulders of these players.

“There’s already a lack of confidence there, so that won’t help matters.

“It won’t be an easy game, that’s for sure, but we’ll go there to pick up points and put an end to this bad run.”
