Kittrick plays down Stewart departure

Scarborough Athletic boss Steve Kittrick has played down the news that top scorer Carl Stewart has signed for Evo-Stik North rivals Tadcaster Albion.

Stewart signed for Boro at the start of the season after being surplus to requirements at Tadcaster, but due to the Brewers average beginning to this campaign, boss Billy Miller has moved to bolster his attack.

Stewart was supposed to play for Boro at Glossop on Saturday, but he pulled out due to a wrist injury, an excuse that Kittrick is now dubious of.

He said: "We gave Carl an improved offer and an extra few quid after he scored the hat-trick against Mossley.

"We said that if he reached 20 goals for the season then we'd have another chat. He shook my hand and the chairman's hand and then told us that he wanted to win the league with Scarborough.

"It is all about people's integrity, neither Carl or Tadcaster come out of this in a good light.

"We thought Carl would stick to is word and it also shows that Tadcaster have spoken to the player before the seven days are up.

"If he wanted to leave why didn't he just tell me rather than telling lies about his wrist, it just seems a bit strange.

"We'll just move on from this, we don't want any player at this club that doesn't want to be here.

"I'm hoping to have a new striker in before the end of the week and we'll go from there."
