League leaders Scarborough Ladies FC U15s defeat SLFC Lionesses
York League leaders Scarborough Ladies FC Under-15s won 13-0 at home to Scarborough Ladies FC Lionesses on Saturday.
Scarborough Ladies FC displayed the strength they have in the age group, when SLFC faced SLFC Lionesses for derby day at Sherburn Playing Fields.
In a good natured game SLFC proved too strong for the Lionesses with goals coming from Milly Bowes, Mia Morris, Chloe McArthur, Macey Crane, Grace Leach and Isla Williams.
The eventual scoreline does not reflect some excellent shot-stopping from Lionesses keepers Catalina Sanduta and Issy Templeman, and the Lionesses were not without chances themselves - particularly through the energetic Amelia Dickinson, Scarlet Coles and also with Sunduta in the second half chasing down the ball and pressing the Ladies defence and calling Williams into action forcing saves.
However, the Ladies defence, led by Molly Lassey, proved too difficult for the Lionesses to break down.
The SLFC coaches awarded Girl of the Game to Sophie Gray for her outstanding play and determination that thwarted the Lionesses’ attacks through midfield.
Special mentions also went to Leach and Martha Stockill.
The win means SLFC remain top of the league and unbeaten this season before going into the York FA Cup Girls U15 semi-final against NYSA this coming weekend.
The Lionesses are also having a strong season, currently sitting mid-table but with a number of games in hand.
The real winner this weekend is Scarborough Ladies FC, with the ‘one club’ mentality from players, coaches and parents alike, showing grass-roots football at its best.
