New manager Darren Kelly makes call on Scarborough Athletic captaincy

It didn't take new Scarborough Athletic boss Darren Kelly long to decide who to appoint as captain after taking over the reigns at the Flamingo Land Stadium last week.

The new Boro chief believes Michael Coulson is the ideal candidate to keep hold of the armband going forward - describing him as "one of the best players in the division".

"Michael is a perfect captain and I see no reason why to take the armband off him," said boss Kelly.

"He's led by example on and off the field in my short time at the club, he's a fantastic player - I'd say one of the best in this division without a shadow of a doubt.

"There's no need to change the captain - Michael is a leader and I think he'll do a fantastic job going forward."

Kelly is impressed with what he's seen in his short stint thus far from his skipper, believing Coulson needs to operate centrally to get the best out of him.

"There might be times if we have injuries or suspensions when Michael may move out wide to the left, but I think to get the best out of him he needs to be in the number 10 role.

"He has all the ability in the world and in the two games I have watched him in last week, he's been really dangerous with shots from long range.

"I thought he showed his ability on Saturday and I have had a couple of good chats with Michael so far and will be doing so again this week."
