Pressure builds on Scarborough Athletic boss John Deacey after miserable run continues at Witton Albion

After a quiet start to proceedings, Witton went ahead 16 minutes in after Billy Smart drove forward and slammed the ball home from 25 yards, giving Boro gloveman Tommy Taylor no chance.

Further long-range strikes from Smart and then Liam Goulding then drifted off target as Witton tried to double their advantage.

Boro were dealt a blow 25 minutes in, Dom Roma limping off to be replaced by youngster Kian Spence.

A further effort from Goulding came and went before Boro had a glorious chance to level matters up, but Paul Walker couldn't control his effort and he lashed the ball well wide.

Isaac Baldwin had a powerful effort blocked before a searching ball into the Witton box at the other end wasn't capitalised on and it was 1-0 to the hosts at the break.

Luke Lofts replaced Walker at the break as Boro looked to switch things up and battle their way back into the game.

Ryan Watson had an effort fly harmlessly wide just before the hour-mark before Witton doubled their advantage.

Will Jones lashed in a free-kick from 25 yards to put the home side 2-0 up against their out-of-form visitors.

T'Nique Fishley was introduced for Pete Davidson to try and find a way back into the contest and Boro's deficit was halved on 72 minutes as James Walshaw scrambled home from close range after a superb stop from Witton custodian Chris Renshaw.

However, just four minutes later, any hopes of a Boro comeback were distinguished when Kyle Sambor was brought down in the box by Isaac Assenso and the referee pointed to the spot.

Adam Anson duly sent Taylor the wrong way from the spot and Witton led 3-1.

Boro had a chance to claw their way back into the game on 78 minutes, but Fishley fired over the bar and the hosts comfortably saw out the dying embers of the contest to take the three points and ensure that the visitor's poor run of form continued.

Deacey's side have now lost six on the bounce in league and cup competitions, conceding 17 goals during that spell.

They'll look to bounce back when they hosts North Riding Football League side Staithes Athletic at the Flamingo Land Stadium in the North Riding Senior Cup on Tuesday night.
