Rising stars sparkle at AFC Eastfield Under-6s
Grassroots football is thriving once again in Eastfield, thanks to the rapid rise of AFC Eastfield’s newest junior team, the Under-6s.
Formed just over a year ago, the team began life as informal "mini ballers" sessions, set up to give local children the opportunity to get active, learn new skills and enjoy football in a fun inclusive environment.

The idea was simple, give children in Eastfield the chance to play football locally and enjoy the game, and the response has been overwhelming.
Due to the commitment from players and parents, the group has now developed into a fully registered U6s side, with the young squad preparing to take part in friendly matches and tournaments. The long term aim is to step into the York Sunday League as an Under-7s team.
While football remains at the heart of the project, there is also a strong emphasis on development off the pitch. It's about more than just the game, building confidence, creating friendships and giving the children something positive to be part of, with their progress over the past year already clear to see.
The team has been supported by local businesses, with Florios providing kit sponsorship and hosting a special team meal and sponsorship evening, while Beyond Housing has also backed the club's efforts to grow grassroots football in the area by supplying six new goals.
Team bonding has played a key role in the club's early success, with events including a pizza-making experience at Scalby Manor and an exclusive hire session at Secret Realm helping to strengthen friendships within the squad.
Coach David Leather said: “Looking ahead AFC Eastfield has ambitious plans to expand, with hopes of introducing additional age groups in the coming years and creating a pathway for children in Eastfield to continue playing football as they grow.
"This is just the beginning, with the club aiming to build year on year and become a key part of the local football community.
"A big thank you to Brad & Vicky at the Eastway Social Club for giving myself this opportunity to use their facilities and teach the children something I have enjoyed playing for years.”
