Rivals Newlands and Edgehill return with crucial title clash

Grassroots sport roars back into action after the second national lockdown ended on Wednesday, with senior and junior sides getting back into action.

As well as title tivals Newlands and Edgehill doing battle, Itis Itis Rovers are at home to West Pier and Seamer welcome Filey Town.

There are also a host of Division Two sides turning their attentions to North Riding FA Saturday Challenge Cup action.

Goal Sports make the long trip to Richmond Mavericks, Edgehill Reserves travel to Bishopthorpe United and Eastfield Athletic are at Marton Abbey.

In Division Two FC Rosette host Newlands Reserves and Scalby Reserves welcome West Pier Reserves.

There are still restrictions in place regarding travelling in and out of Tier 3 areas which could prevent Saturday League Division Two newcomers Flamborough from fulfilling fixtures, starting with their scheduled clash with Filey Town Reserves this weekend.

Also, players who live in Tier 3 areas are not permitted to travel and play for teams in Tier 2.

League secretary John Orrah said: “It has been difficult to get fixtures sorted as we have been waiting for official communication from the North Riding FA.

“All our clubs apart from Flamborough fall into the Tier 2 category so can resume fixtures.

“However, players can not travel from Tier 3 areas to play for clubs in our league.”

Next weekend sees three Division One sides play in the North Riding FA County Cup.

Newlands host Ryedale, Scalby make the trip to Fishburn Park and Edgehill are at St Mary’s 1947.

In the One Stop Sunday League, two Scarborough sides are set for North Riding FA Sunday Challenge Cup action.

Angel Athletic were supposed to host Redcar Town Under-23 Royals and Trafalgar were all set to welcome Yarm Albion - but both visiting sides are unable to travel into Scarborough from Tier 3 locations.

Guidance on the use of changing rooms in grassroots football has also been released, stating: “Changing rooms can be used, but participants must adhere to gathering limits while indoors, and maintain social distancing wherever possible.”
