Rosedale and Kirkdale United dig deep to win nine-goal thrillers
With a view to beating the persistently wet weather Malton’s 3G surface hosted two back-to-back Newitts.com Beckett League Division One fixtures on Saturday.
And what a move it proved as the afternoon’s action produced a staggering 18 goals in all!

First on the artificial stage were basement club Rosedale, who challenged moors neighbours Danby.
The ‘travelling’ team took the lead through ex-Rosedale man Harvey Clacherty but were soon pegged back as Dale icon Alastair Wilkinson levelled with a scruffy finish, his 11th goal of the current campaign, the veteran heading for his most prolific season in front of goal.
Danby regained the lead, this time through another Clacherty, brother Kyle and when Felix Elliott stroked home a penalty kick, awarded for a Rosedale handball, five minutes before the interval, Danby looked comfortable.
Not comfortable enough however as early in the second period first Neil Adams, with a header, and then James King to level, saw Rosedale get back into the game.
Indeed when Paul Allsopp struck the game appeared to have been well and truly turned on its head.
Danby replied with a second for Kyle Clacherty and when it was looking for all intense and purpose that honours were to be shared, a 93rd-minute winner arrived for Rosedale via Henry Birkett, the most unlikely of match winners, finishing from close range.
Act two at the 3G involved Kirkdale United, who hosted Snainton, both sides looking to escape from the wrong end of the table.
Again it was the scheduled visitors that took the early lead as MacKenzie Pllu put Snainton ahead after 15 minutes.
Kirkdale replied with a sweet finish from youngster Dan Robinson and then went ahead as Thomas Hepton fired home the rebound from his initial penalty stop.
Pllu hit back with his second and the Snainton equaliser before Hepton grabbed his second, this time from open play and with little more than 10 minutes of the first half remaining Mark McNulty levelled for the visitors.
The second half continued to produce an end-to-end spectacle but it would be the final 20 minutes or so that would bring any further action of note.
First Kirkdale took the lead for the third time as Rob Galtrey headed home strongly following a corner.
Snainton continued to press the opposition back line and in doing so Kirkdale’s Glen Forrester, looking to head the ball back to his keeper, instead headed into an empty net.
Not ruffled however United drove forward once more and when Snainton backed off Reggie Rooke’s effort beat the keeper to nestle in the far corner giving Kirkdale maximum points.
In Division Two Slingsby welcomed neighbour Amotherby & Swinton Reserves to Church Lane.
Trevor Clubley and Oliver Dade were on target for the hosts in the first half with veteran Mikey Brown grabbing a brace for the visitors to make things.
In the second period Rhys Jones and Gary Walker struck for Slingsby, but Brown wasn’t to be outdone as he first completed his hat-trick before finishing a fourth opportunity to ensure the points were shared.
Ryedale hosted Bagby & Balk, the visitors taking the lead midway into the opening 45 minutes through Dave Cocks.
The home side levelled before the interval with a Brody Norton-Hunter strike.
The second period saw Cocks regain the advantage for Bagby, extended on the hour mark with a goal from substitute Louis Chapman.
Hunter replied with a second but further goals from another Bagby subs Will Goldburn and Danny Dobson made it a comfortable close to the game for the visitors.
Basement side Heslerton Development lost 2-0 at home to Fishburn Park Academy.
After a goalless first 45, the second period saw Heslerton with most of the ball for the early part until a Fishburn break drew a foul inside 18 yards Lee Brennan giving Heslerton keeper Stuart Corner no chance from the spot.
The home side continued to push with the impressive Corey Wiles going closest on two occasions.
Late on a Park corner wasn’t dealt with and Evan Morris sealed the win.
