Blott, who made the return to Athletic towards the end of last season after a spell as assistant manager at Pickering Town, will also be handed a role on boss Kelly’s coaching staff.

The striker will work alongside boss Kelly, player-coach David Brown, physio Darren Foreman and a new assistant manager, expected to be announced by the club in the near future.

“I can’t think of a better candidate for a club captain at Scarborough Athletic,” said boss Kelly.

“I was delighted to have him back in the group towards the back end of last season, even if he was carrying a knock and his fitness levels weren’t where they needed to be - and he’d be the first to admit that too.

“He knows where the back of the net is and to have him as an option is fantastic for us.

“A lot of clubs are operating with a club captain as well as the traditional roles on the field - and Blotty will be a great addition in that role.

“He’s a great ambassador for Scarborough Athletic and I can’t think of anyone better positioned to represent us in that role than Ryan.

“With regards his coaching role, he has cut his teeth in the coaching game at Pickering Town with Denny (Ingram) and he works with the club’s Under-19s and the Scarborough Sport Scholarship already - so he’s well placed to offer something off the field too.

“I’m really pleased with how things are coming together for us now.

“We just need the green light on when we can get back to it and we’ll be good to go for pre-season.”
