SATURDAY LEAGUE CUP REPORTS: Edgehill shine in Filey victory

Edgehill led when Dan Jones swept in from the penalty spot before Jackson Jowett doubled their lead heading into the break.

Jowett grabbed his second with a stunning left-foot strike from outside the box to make it 3-0 after 55 minutes before Danny Glendinning netted on his debut for 4-0.

Jowett was at it again as he completed his hat-trick of goals from outside the box with another strike from distance before substitute Wayne Aziz wrapped up the 6-0 win.

Boss Steve Clegg said: “We had six players missing but we played well after a tight opening 25 minutes.”

Clegg singled out Lloyd Henderson and hat-trick hero Jowett as his side’s star men.

Seamer cruised into the next round with a 9-3 win at third division Scalby Reserves.

Luke Delve bagged a first-half hat-trick and Joe Gallagher’s stunning thunderbolt from the edge of the box gave Paddy Parke’s men a 4-0 lead at half-time.

Gallagher grabbed another from long range after the break, while the impressive Gary Lawton notched a brace.

Alex Hamilton and sub Ben Mason got on the scoresheet, but the Otters’ second string battled hard and a hat-trick from Tom Bayes meant Seamer took the 9-3 win.

Gallagher, Lawton and Delve stood out for Seamer, while Tom Manson made a string of superb saves in the Scalby goal.

Newlands Reserves dumped Edgehill Reserves out of the League Trophy after a 5-1 win.

Drew McCoubrey scored two while goals from Liam Mancrief, Sam Chambers and Liam Buglass wrapped up the win for Park.

Duchess ended Scalby’s 100% start to the season as they won a scrappy encounter 3-1.

Tim Jackson opened the scoring when he challenged stand-in keeper Grant Elwell and the ball squirmed over the line.

Dan Argyle’s men levelled when Dan Peel raced onto Mikey Hartnett’s through-ball and fired in after the break.

But the hosts weren’t to be denied and Jackson then turned provider for JP Watson to make it 2-1.

Jackson then grabbed his second and the last goal of the game when he found himself one-on-one with Elwell and lobbed into the net.

Adam North and Jackson stood out for Duchess, while goalscorer Peel was Scalby’s man of the match.

Damon Cook’s superb start as Cayton Reserves boss continued as his side edged past Falsgrave after extra-time.

Scores were locked at 1-1 after 90 minutes after Mark Reddy’s early strike was cancelled out by Simon Stubbs’ volley from Sam Blake’s cross.

Cayton took over in extra-time and Stubbs grabbed two more goals to complete his hat-trick and goals from debutant Dan Louth and Ash Durham rounded off the 5-1 win.

Cook singled out hat-trick hero Stubbs and Joel Boyer, who shone in midfield.

Goal Sports held their nerve from the spot to knock out Beckett League side Sinnington and progress in the Harbour Cup.

Mark Plumpton’s men were 3-0 up after 30 minutes and in full control after Dan Pollard opened the scoring and Tyson Stubbings fired in two, his second from the penalty spot after Kieran Friett was fouled in the box.

The Sinners caught Goal Sports napping and netted two quick goals before the break to make it 3-2.

The hosts must have thought they’d done enough when Stubbings swept in another pen for 4-2, but two late goals for the visitors sent the game straight to the penalty spot.

Stubbings, Friett, Tom Wilde and Pollard all scored from the spot, and after keeper Tom Peacock saved one and another flew over, the hosts took the 4-3 shoot-out success.

Plumpton picked out Stubbings as his side’s man of the match.
