Scarborough Athletic boss Darren Kelly cautious but raring to go ahead of potential return to action

Boro will return to training next Thursday after the second national lockdown, but boss Kelly’s side may not be able to play home fixtures should Scarborough be placed into Tier 3 of the new guidelines, including the Government’s strictest restrictions which state no supporters would be allowed.

The club have made it clear on numerous occasions that home games without crowds present would not be sustainable.

“We can’t and don’t want to play home games behind closed doors,” said Kelly.

“There’s a real desire from myself and the players to get back going - but we need to wait and see what tier Scarborough is placed in and then decide from there when and how we get back into action.

“We has a Zoom catch up on Tuesday night, will do a virtual session next Tuesday and then we’ll be back on the training pitch together next Thursday and Saturday.

“There’s a possibility that we might try to get a fixture sorted for the Tuesday, but we will have to wait and see what happens before then.”

Kelly admits he can’t wait to see the back off the mess the coronavirus pandemic has brought - adding he belives it will be the 2021/22 season before somewhere close to normality returns for the club.

“I just can’t wait to see the back of this horrible virus,” added Kelly.

“Hopefully we can get this vaccine rolled out sooner rather than later and we can get back to something as close to normality as possible.

“I think realistically we’re looking at managing our way through this season and then looking at a more normal 2021/22 season for all clubs - which would be more than welcome.”
