Scarborough Athletic manager Darren Kelly hopes to give a young goalkeeper the chance to be understudy to whoever ends up being his number one for the start of the new campaign.

“It’d be nice to go in-house to the academy or the Scarborough Football Scholarship for a back-up goalkeeper and give someone the opportunity," said Kelly.

“I’m very much a coach who likes to give younger players the chance, but we need to be careful it isn’t detrimental to their development.

“A goalkeeper can make 10 world class saves and then drop a clanger and they’ll be remember for the mistake, so it’s important that they have the right mentality, regardless of age and experience.

“I will again be doing my due diligence and speaking to coaches at the academy and the Scholarship and seeing what options we have.”

Kelly is also hoping to make progress with his search to replace goalkeeping coach Tom Morgan, who left the club and joined Liversedge last week.

“There have been a few names suggested and I will be trying to progress this soon,” added Kelly.

“It is going to be so important that we get the right person in for that role as we have put together a really strong coaching staff and the group is looking good.”
