Avison, 17, has impressed Kelly during pre-season and is keen to help him develop.

The young defender attends the Scarborough Football Scholarship and also turns out for local sides Edgehill and Trafalgar, but has been training with Boro for a while now and boss Kelly likes what he sees.

"I like what I see with young Connor," said Kelly.

"Clearly he is still young but there is something to work with there and obviously as a defender myself, I like to think I will be able to develop him and bring him on as a player.

"He has done well in training and also in the time he has spent on the pitch in our friendlies too, so I look forward to seeing him continue to learn, develop and improve.

"That has to be an objective at any club, to work with the best young players in the area, develop and nurture them into first-team players and then hopefully make a few quid and see them progress even further."
