Taylor has revealed he is set to go on trial with a Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership club next week.

Speculation has been rife regards Taylor’s future after the majority of last season’s squad committed to the club for the 2020/21 campaign - with only Wayne Brooksby and Pete Davidson’s future yet to be confirmed.

Taylor has held discussions with Athletic manager Darren Kelly, but any negotiations on a deal will need to wait until the outcome of the former Brighouse stopper’s trial north of the border.

“I spoke with Darren a while ago, but at that time he hadn’t had his budget confirmed so a deal wasn’t discussed,” said Taylor.

“Since then, this opportunity has come up so I want to focus 100% on that and will then take things from there.

“I’ve always been honest about my aims to try and get into a full-time football environment, and this would offer me that chance.”

While the popular goalkeeper is hoping to impress during his trial in order to be offered a deal, he isn’t adverse to returning to Scarborough Athletic should that not come to fruition.

“Of course I’d be open to staying at Scarborough,” added Taylor.

“I said to Darren I would be in touch either way after the trial and would be open to coming back as things are looking very positive at the club and he’s made some very strong signings.

“I’ve had a very positive relationship with the club and fans since I joined the club and I can’t imagine joining another club at the same level.

“I’ve seen rumours that I am going to sign for South Shields, but there’s been no contact from them at all.”
