Scarborough Athletic struck late on to seal a 3-2 win at Gainsborough Trinity in the BetVictor Northern Premier League.

Darren Kelly named an unchanged side in his second game in the Boro hot-seat following last weekend's rousing derby victory against Whitby Town.

Former Boro man Declan Bacon had the first chance on goal but his tame effort was easily saved by Tommy Taylor in the Athletic goal.

Gainsborough again went close on 18 minutes, Curtis Morrison crossing to Michael Williams, whose header drifted wide of the Boro goal.

Trinity took the lead on 37 minutes, Joe Maguire heading in from a pin-point corner.

Back battled Kelly's men though and right on the brink of half-time, striker James Walshaw finding the back of the net with a superb solo effort.

Trinity went back ahead seven minutes into the second half, debutant and ex-Boro man Bacon in the right place at the right time to fire in after Mitchell Dunn's strike had come back off the post.

Former Everton midfielder George Green, on loan at Trinity from Boston United, then rattled the Boro bar with a strike from long-range.

Boro kept battling away for a way back into the contest and they were rewarded on 76 minutes, defender Isaac Assenso tapping in after a prolonged period of pressure.

A dramatic end to the clash ensued as Bacon thought he'd won it for Curtis Woodhouse's men with just two minutes left on the clock, Bacon firing in only to be denied by an offside flag.

The drama continued into stoppage-time, on-loan Connor Thomson following up his winner against Whitby Town last week with a last-gasp strike to give Kelly's men a 3-2 lead.

Boro held out to seal their second win on the bounce under new boss Kelly, and they'll look to follow that up when Mickleover Sports visit the Flamingo Land Stadium next Saturday.
