Scarborough Ladies Under-14s seal NRCFA Cup semi-final success

Scarborough Ladies Under-14s  progressed to the final of the North Riding FA Cup with an excellent 3-0 win against their North-Eastern opponents Grangetown Boys Club.

From the off the Scarborough girls matched their opponents player for player and took a deserved lead as Maya Gildroy’s long throw sent Jorji Crawford free, who, having been held up by the keeper once showed great composure to bend her shot into the corner.

Gildroy was then unfortunate to have a goal disallowed before she again provided the assist for Lucy Tighe to double the advantage.

As the second half started however she was not to be denied, Crawford’s excellent hooked cross finding Gildroy who calmly made it 3-0.

Grangetown tried to fight back with the wind at their backs, however they came across girl of the game Abbey Pollard in goal who dominantly and calmly dealt with everything.

She was ably assisted by Jess Corner who was dominant at the back throughout.

Scarborough saw the game out comfortably in a tremendous team effort and march on to the final.

Scarborough Ladies Under-16s claimed a 3-1 win against Ripon.

Within minutes Anna Bowman put in a curved ball to Lara Peasegood-Capilla which went just wide.

Louise Bean then received the ball, was tackled by one of their midfielders, managed to stay on her feet and dribble the ball past three more Ripon players before having a shot that was saved.

A throw-in by Lucy Roberts landed at the feet of Ellie Pateman who smashed it into the net getting Scarborough’s first goal 24 minutes in.

An unfortunate own goal made it 1-1 just before half- time but Scarborough came back after the break even more solid.

Scarborough’s keeper played out from the back and with some superb link-up play, defender Jolie Matthews, midfielder Sophie McCarthy and left-winger Beth Barnes created the chance for Peasegood-Capilla and with a great finish it was 2-0 18 minutes into the second half.

A sensational strike by Bowman from 10 yards outside the Scarborough box was brought down and controlled by Peasegood-Capilla who got her second goal of the game making the final score 3-1.

Girl of the game was Matthews.

Scarborough Ladies Under-13s worked very hard for a 4-2 win at a physical Brayton Belles side.

Scarborough started brightly with Kelsie McGough and Alannah Inglis forcing saves but six minutes into game Brayton scored with nice breakaway goal to make it 1-0.

Both teams really got stuck in and the defending was first class with some really hard tackles going in.

Scarborough hit back when Lucy Fairbank pounced on a bad pass from the keeper to go around her and slip a shot home to level the game at half-time.

In the second half Brayton scored a great early goal with an unstoppable shot from their top striker.

Then Scarborough stepped up into top gear.

Faye Betts, Emily McArthur, Sophie Smith, Libby Cogin and Lexie Daubney combined well in defence and kept a really tight ship, coming forward when possible.

This approach was rewarded with Daubney getting her first-ever goal with a long range effort to bring the screline back to 2-2, then the forwards got going with McGough getting the third with another long-range effort to put the away side in front for the first time in the league match.

The visitors kept pushing and working together resulting in Inglis getting the fourth to seal a Scarborough win.

Girl of the game was Daubney for really getting stuck in and getting her first-ever goal.

Betts got coaches’ award for her best-ever performance in defence.
