Scarborough Sunday League: Newlands roar into title contention after Angel victory

Angel were reduced to 10 men after just 15 minutes, Jordan Mintoft the man sent off for Dan Jones' side.

Ryan Colling scored the only goal of the first half as Dan Sheader's men led 1-0 at the break.

Brad Rowley wrapped up the win for Newlands after he beat his marker and fired in during a second half that saw a spate of players sin-binned.

Sheader was quick to sing the praises of his back four in an impressive all-round team display.

Jones singled out Lloyd Henderson and Danny Anderson as his side's star men.

Trafalgar beat Valley 2-1 to stay top of the table, albeit having played three more games than second-placed Newlands.

Danny Glendinning and Connor Avison scored for the victors, while Sam Westmoreland netted for Valley.

Jamie Patterson and Glendinning shone for Traf, while Harry Ward was Valley's star man, with boss Ben Kristensen quick to praise his side's efforts.

Elsewhere in Division One, Cayton Corinthians registered their first league win of the season as they beat West Pier 3-0.

Luke Chambers scored the only goal of the first half and then doubled his side's lead after the break.

The win was wrapped up by Leeroy Donaldson's strike.

Donaldson and Aaron Armstrong shone for Cayton.

Roscoes Bar sealed the spoils from an eight-goal thriller against Saints FC in Division Two.

Man of the match Carl Hepples proved to be the matchwinner for Roscoes as he hammered in a hat-trick in the 5-3 victory, their other goals coming from Lee Sutton and Matty Rowley.

Matty Stanley, Adam Hartmann and Rob Holt netted for Saints, whose man of the match was Elliott Backhouse.

Angel Athletic Reserves edged to a 3-2 victory on the road at Fylingdales.

Early goals from Matty Forsyth and Jack Pinder put Angel 2-0 up before Andrew Marshall hit back for hosts Dales.

Jamie Hartley's strike after the break soon restored Angel's two-goal cushion, and although Tom Shrimpton hit a second for Dales, Angel hung on for the win.

Forsyth and Danny Kelly stood out for the victors, while Dom Morgan was Fylingdales' man of the match.

A quickfire hat-trick from Jack South fired Eastfield Athletic to a 6-2 success against Castle Tavern.

A Jack James strike had Athletic ahead early on, but Tavern equalised through a superb free-kick from Thamuer Dridi.

South then smashed a 17-minute treble to put his side 4-1 up before goals from Nathan Sutherland and Johnny Whitworth put Athletic in control.

Tavern bagged a late consolation through Pawel Zalewski but Athletic had already done enough for the win.

James was Athletic's man of the match, with Dridi impressing for Tavern.
