Former Scarborough FC midfielder Scott Kerr has been named as the new Head Coach of Bridlington Town, with former Boro teammate Mark Hotte coming in as his assistant manager.

Speaking before the New Year’s Day clash with Redcar, he asked the Seasiders fans to ‘Get behind the lads and hopefully we can turn things around’.

He said: “It may not be immediate but we will be working hard behind the scenes to freshen the squad up and are looking forward to the challenge and believe the squad is good enough to be challenging up in the top six.”

A former midfielder born in Leeds, Kerr made over 400 senior appearances, including spells in the EFL with Bradford City, Lincoln City and York, where he captained Lincoln over a six-year period and earned individual accolades such as Lincoln Player of the Year (2008-09) and York Clubman of the Year (2011-12).

A club statement said: “Scott’s understanding of the game, leadership qualities and commitment on and off the pitch align perfectly with our club’s ethos and ambitions. We are confident his experience and footballing intelligence will be pivotal as we strive for success both on and off the field.

"Joining Scott in the coaching team is Mark Hotte, who enjoyed a long playing career with clubs including Oldham, Scarborough FC, York and FC Halifax Town. Mark’s experience and knowledge of the non-league football landscape make him a fantastic addition to the backroom staff.

"The Board would like to thank supporters for their patience throughout our manager recruitment process.”

Chairman Daniel Rogers said “I’m delighted to welcome Scott to the Bridlington Town leadership team following a rigorous recruitment campaign by the club, leaving no stone unturned.

"Throughout our extensive discussions Scott’s leadership style, character and determination to drive standards shone through and I have renewed confidence that we are on the right path to building a professional, sustainable club that will not only compete at this level but thrive and go on to meet our longer term objectives of playing Step 2 football within the next 5 years.

"Now is the time to bring back the positivity, come down and get behind Scott and the team.”
