Staveley hits double as Scalby Under-14s battle past Hawks

Connor Avison opened the scoring from the penalty spot for Alec Coulson’s side, before providing the free-kick for Reuben Staveley to tap in for a 2-0 lead.

For Heslerton, Josh Dolan, Josh Robertson and Ihsan Eroglu stood out in a rearguard action, tackling their hearts out in front of stand-out keeper Brad Spiller.

Further goals from Jack Reeves and another for Staveley made the game safe for Scalby, but not before Jayden Isaacs had rattled the post for the Hawks and Sam Owen spectacularly hit the crossbar with a curling effort, having beaten three defenders before cutting in off the wing.

Man of match honours went to stand-in Scalby keeper Eddy Hopper for his clean-sheet, while Josh Dolan was the Hawks’ star man.

Scalby Under-16s edged to a hard-fought 1-0 win against Goldsborough.

Kieran Regan’s opportunistic strike proved the difference in a tight match.

Both teams had chances in a goalless first half, with the away side unlucky not to take the lead as they hit the bar from close range.

Scalby took the lead 10 minutes into the second half, as Eric Hall worked some space and hit a hard shot the keeper could only parry into the path of Regan, who made no mistake from close range.

Goldsbrough piled on the pressure, however Max Tadman kept them out with a commanding performance between the sticks.

Tadman made a number of good saves and was fortunate again as Goldsbrough hit the bar from 35 yards.

Both sides played their part in a very entertaining encounter, and Goldsborough will be looking for revenge as the two sides meet again this weekend.

Heslerton Under-10s travelled to Scholes Park.

The first game was a tight affair with a couple of first-half goals for the home team separating the two sides.

Lincoln Welburn was man of the match in the first clash.

The second game saw the home team turn on the style.

Charlie Swiers grabbed two consolation goals for Heslerton, with Myles Johnson claiming the man of the match award.

Heslerton Under-Nines Buccaneers travelled to Scalby Otters.

It was the Buccaneers’ best performance of the season.

Ben Whitaker-Ellis was in goal, Matthew Banister and Oliver Sim in defence, Sammy Barber and Warren Stanton in midfield and Osker Olsen and Shaun Isaac played up front.

Stanton gave the visitors the lead as the Buccaneers came out the blocks sharply.

Barber hit the bar and the post was also struck on numerous occasions.

William Leeson and Jack Boyes came on, but Scalby managed to run out winners.

Barber was man of the match, while game two saw Isaac take the award.

Heslerton Under-Nines Pirates visited Scalby.

Goals from Bradbury, Palliser and Smith weren’t enough for victory against the well-organised hosts.

Oliver Dade’s string of saves earned him man of the match.

Goals from Dade and Kai Wilson, along with a Kendrew double save earned Heslertone a great draw in game two in which Wilson was star man.

West Pier Under-Nines took on Eastfield.

Within the first five minutes Pier scored their first goal through Jack Fraser, which was then followed by a second goal by Marco Miah.

Pier’s third goal deflected off an unfortunate Eastfield defender and into his own goal just before half-time.

The second half saw onemore goal from Arlie Smith, giving the West Pier youngsters the well-deserved victory on the day

Heslerton Jaguars Under-Eights took on Whitby Fishermen.

Jaguars shared the honours in a tight game thanks to excellent defending from Harley Bott, Owen Ellis and saves from Joey Palmer.

Star man Ryan Cooper was particularly strong as Jack MacDougall, Alfie Rouph and Tia-Mae Walker continued pressing forward.

Moving to seven-a-side in the second match didn’t suit the Jaguars, but it showedhow far they’ve come in the five-a-side format. Star man was Aaron Walton.

Heslerton Heroes Under-Sevens welcomed Hunmanby Hornets with goals from Lee Cappleman, Taylor Sims, Louie Spence and Harry Massheder.

Player of the match was Tom Gibson for his effort and determination.

The second game saw strikes from Seth Walmsley, Keane Welburn and Archie Pilmoor in a great game.
