In the only game to beat the overnight downpours in the Sunday League fixture list, Lee Paterson's side conceded five unanswered first-half goals and despite a second-half rally, couldn't overturn their deficit.

In a game ruined by strong winds and a sodden pitch, Thornaby controlled the first-half, racing into a 5-0 lead heading into the break.

Roscoes, who had to put stand-in keeper Tom Allen in goal, couldn't get out of their defensive third due to the strong wind blowing towards them.

Bar gave it a good go in the second half with the strong winds now pushing them into Thornaby territory.

Man of the match Gary Hepples smashed in four goals to give Bar hope, and Matty Rowley fired in a stunning strike from distance.

The away side managed to score two further goals, including an own goal by Andrew Noon, to take the 7-5 win, despite sustained pressure on their goal in the last 10 minutes, with their keeper making several smart saves and Bar rattling the crossbar.

Paterson said: "It was definitely a game of two halves with the wind. We just couldn't get out of our half.

"We gave it a good go second half, they couldn't get out of their box in the last 10 minutes, we had corner after corner, but we just couldn't get level.

"We were fairly unlucky in the end."
