Boro celebrate their promotion to the Football League

Since the club’s formation in 1879, Scarborough FC had a rollercoaster ride, which included some absolutely cracking matches.

We have been looking back through the years at some of the biggest games in the history of the club, and we are giving fans the chance to vote for theirs.

Was it one of the FA Trophy trips to Wembley or even the home victory against Weymouth that secured Boro the GM Vauxhall Conference title and a place in the Football League.

You might have preferred the 4-2 win against York City in 1992, when Darren Foreman struck a superb hat-trick.

Scarborough FC also had a knack of booking a big game or two in the League Cup.

Boro met up with Southampton and Arsenal, as well as having stunning victories against Portsmouth, Chelsea and Coventry City.

Our favourites

Tommy Mooney and Darren Foreman celebrate the 4-2 win against York

Mitch Cook: As a supporter it has to be the first Wembley trip for the FA Trophy game against Wigan. I was 12 at the time and just getting into being a Scarborough supporter, so to go to Wembley for a game like that was just amazing.

As a player I would have to say either of the two League Cup games against Portsmouth in 1988. I scored a last-minute penalty when we drew 2-2 in the first leg and then their manager Alan Ball said that we’d had our game and that they were going to beat us up here.

I chipped the keeper for our second in a 3-1 win.

Darren Foreman: Got to be the 4-2 win against York City closely followed by the 3-0 against Coventry. That whole cup run was so exciting.

Andy Bloomfield: I had never seen anything like the 4-2 win against York before and I probably won’t again. Scarborough just destroyed them.

Martin Dowey: The 2-2 draw against Southampton in 1988 was the first time I had seen a top-flight club and the atmosphere throughout was absolutely electric.
