Warnock, sacked by Crystal Palace last week, who has also managed Sheffield United and Leeds United, took Scarborough into the Football League in 1986/87 and fans of the club have never forgotten that monumental achievement.

Warnock’s appointment as manager wraps up our All-Time Scarborough XI campaign.

Ian Ironside took up his place between the sticks, with a solid back four of John Kay, Neil Thompson, Harry Dunn and Jason Rockett in front of him.

The midfield consisted of Tony Aveyard, Gerry Donoghue, Gary Bennett and Martin Russell, with famous early 1990s strike partners Darren Foreman and Tommy Mooney getting the nod up front.
