One of the clubs making a return a number of years after folding are Westover Wasps, and under the management of Josh Beach the club are hoping to return with a bang.

The Wasps have opened their account with four points from a possible six, drawing their season opener against Flamborough 4-4 before hammering Eastfield Athletic 7-1 on Saturday.

Beach is hopeful of pushing for an instant promotion to the top-flight and also challenging for silverware.

He said: “I like to think we had a decent pre-season.

“We didn’t really know what to expect of Flamborough but we gave them two goals and they weren’t a bad outfit to be fair.

“We didn’t start great against Eastfield but once we got to grips we soon stepped it up a bit and played some nice football, which is great to see from my point of view.

“Everyone’s pulled together, I couldn’t take all the credit because it’s been a massive joint effort, but I’m very happy with how the lads are doing.

“It’s a team effort to get us promoted, it’s a squad of 16 and the aim is to try and push for a cup as well.”

Beach is also enjoying his first managerial position.

He added: “It’s my first season as a gaffer so it’s been a bit different.

“I see more now what happens behind the scenes, organising kits, jackets for the lads and more.

“I was here for a few years just as we folded and I loved it I always said I’d come back and set it up but I didn’t expect to be doing it this young, but I missed the club that much we’ve gone for it.

“Yes, it’s a been a bit stressful but I couldn’t have done it without the help and support of Danny Sellers, Chris Townsend and Dave Gaddass.”

Beach is missing key man Aidan McCallion for his side’s meeting with FC Rosette this weekend, but is boosted by a three new additions.

He added: “Aidan got injured on Saturday so he’s out, but we’ve just signed Liam Buglass, Brad Marshall and Sam Turner this week.”

Elsewhere in Division Two this weekend Goal Sports take on Eastfield Athletic, Scalby Reserves are up against Seamer Reserves and West Pier Reserves host Newlands Reserves.
