Scarborough golfers get back in the swing after courses re-open
Local golfers have taken advantage of courses re-opening following the latest relaxation of coronavirus restrictions.
Scarborough’s courses were allowed to re-open on Monday morning and members wasted no time in getting back in the swing of things.
North Cliff Golf Club captain Max Stansfield is delighted to see members back out on the course enjoying their golf.
“It has been brilliant to see members back out on the course this week with a smile on their face enjoying their golf,” said Stansfield.
“We have a new tee on the third hole that has been used for the first time and everyone has been coming in off the course commenting how well it has played and what great condition it is in.
“We believe it is the best course in the area and I have to say the greenkeepers have done a fantastic job.”
North Cliff welcomed 90 new members in 2020 as people flocked to golf while other sports stopped in line with coronavirus restrictions.
“We welcomed 90 new members in 2020 and hopefully they all enjoyed their experience with us and will be returning for 2021,” added Stansfield.
South Cliff Golf Club also re-opened on Monday with the first tee shot at 6am.
South Cliff secretary Shaun Smith said: “Along with all golf courses in England, Scarborough South Cliff Golf Club was delighted to welcome back its members and visitors on Monday.
“All players followed England Golf’s guidelines for a ‘Covid Safe’ return to the sport and it was great to see a smiling faces with everyone happy to be back playing.
“The greens staff have worked incredibly hard to present the course in excellent condition for the reopening and we received lots of great feedback.
“Almost every tee time was taken on Monday with Club Champion Tommy Risker striking the first tee shot at 6am.
“Last year over 140 new members joined the club and with restrictions on some sports still in place, we are expecting another very busy year.
