Lino’s high hopes for his new swimming club

This club will initially be based between the pools in Bridlington and The Bay, Filey, and will offer numerous weekly training sessions for dedicated, competitive swimmers from the ages of seven through to 18, as well as sessions for adult masters swimmers and triathletes.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time at Kingfishers and achieved what I realistically could do at the club,” said Juan Carlos.

“Now is the time to move on from an essentially socially-orientated and leisure style club to a more professional and fully-focused approach to the sport.”

Incorporating both pool-based training, devoted land training programmes and specialist swim camps, the new club aims to develop swimmers to the very best of their ability and competitive level with other like-minded athletes.

Lino added: “As always, my main goal as a coach is to keep swimmers motivated and training hard, but ultimately enjoying their swimming.

“Through this strategy, swimmers will continue to train happily and hopefully remain in the sport for the long term rather than commonly quitting in their early teenage years, resulting in a much greater chance of positive results in their swimming.”

Having achieved previous success with swimmers qualifying and gaining medals in county, regional and national championships, Lino is now looking to better these accolades for his swimmers and achieve notoriety for the club both locally and outside of the region.

Beginning with the Junior Yorkshire Championships in Sheffield in October and then onto the European Masters Championships in London in May 2016, this is going to be a really exciting first year for the Yorkshire Coast Swimming Club and its growing numbers of swimmers.

Former Kingfishers coach Lino added: “Setting up this new club has involved a lot of hard work and effort, and there is obviously still a great deal more to do.

“But I really need to express my sincere gratitude to all the supportive families and swimmers who have helped me here so far, and of course a big thanks to the other coaches and teachers who have joined me at the club.

“We are steadily getting ourselves organised and have already managed to secure some sponsorship to help with club kit and equipment, so things are already looking extremely positive.

“Yorkshire Coast Swimming Club will therefore be a highly attractive option for local swimmers who take their sport seriously and want to develop and progress further in a competitive yet supportive environment.”
